Finally! Yay!!! and OUCH! We finished, filled and stocked the pond. 9x10, 3'-4' deep. Alas the rain pushed some silt into it and I'm waiting to see how the koi fare. They seem to be very skittish and afraid of the surface... choosing to remain in the deepest spot. Will they grow out of this? (she asks hoping!)

I have a 5 inch koi that has suddenly stopped being able to close his mouth.... He/she/it... is not eating and is now floating sideways most of the time. I expected it to die, but it keeps on living... it does intermittent swims around the tank and has no problems doing so, but then returns to it's corner to float sideways. Petstore doesn't know what it is and I could find nothing on the internet. Has anyone come across this?! I'd hate for it do die and would like to help it. What can I do for it, feed it? medicate it?

Thank you!!!!

Hi all folks Robo here: new to this group .I have more then several Koi and several ponds. In the past years we would leave all large pond fish in the mud pond it is 100'x100' and depest about 6 feet. The water goes down to about 4ft of water and freezes top side about 4-6'' the Koi go deep into the mudd and "metab-out " we have lost several good pets over the years due to "winter stress" I am looking for Ideas for winter housing requirements ----- less stress for the two. One is 20- 26"the other smaller .I build Ferro cement ponds and have lots of space to place housing for them ... These guys and gals have been in the mud pond for years and are use to the large space Thanks Robo

We were dismayed when we came home and found a mated pair of mallards swimming in our small pond. I knew that they could not stay. Our pond and back yard would not survive mother nature's little addition. Shooing them off is only temporary. My solution was to get 10 bright balls to float in the water. The breeze in my backyard keeps the balls in constant motion. I have actually watched the ducks land only once since the balls were added. They didn't even make it to the water before the balls moved and freaked them out.

I made sure that I washed the balls off before adding them to the pond--didn't want my koi to croak.

Check out the pix of my pond.

Algae help please

I am relatively new to having fish ponds, as I inherited two ponds when I moved into my current home. (One is natural looking pond with one koi in it and the other pond has a decorative fountain and about 21 goldfish in it.) At the moment, I am feeling frustrated with the goldfish pond (approximately 250 gallons, fountain spills over into pond that the fish are in). Maybe a month ago, my husband cleaned the whole thing out. I then dropped Jungle Pond Block and Jungle Pond Clear in the amounts according to the package instructions, added a bit of blue pond dye, put in chlorine remover when we added the water back in, and replaced the previous pump and filter with what seemed like a better one. (There's actually two pumps, but one just circulates water in the fountain.) I have been continuing to use the various products at the recommended intervals. We already have green showing up again - on the bowl of the fountain, on the side walls of the pond - and my husbands says that he pulled one of the rocks out from the bottom and said it feels slimy. What can we do? Thanks in advance!

does anyone know anything about orandas? I have one, he has gotten quite large, lately the "growth of his head ha seemed to have gotten larger or swolen and is obstructing his eyes! does this have to do with him growing/aging, or do you think it is more likely the cause of a fungus? i have recently treated the water for fungus, (two days ago) and before that and even now I can see no visable external signs of any fungi.

what are some of the handy tricks do you use for shallow ponds when the weather gets cold? We are having a much colder winter then usuall in florida and one of my ponds is very shallow - about 3 foot, so i ran a hose from my hot water heater and put it on a low trickle (this pond also has turtles, golfish, mollies, and a pleca or 2 in it as well as Koi... they don't take to the temp. drop so well.)
